Stew got a good reception from the hometown crowd
(he's from Alexandria) and he gave us a great show! The second leg of the
North American Tour is less blistering and rushed than the earlier
dates, though Stu is still a machine on the drums. I saw them in New York
last August and loved it. This show here in C'ville was just as good,
but more casual. They've added large video monitors on this part of
the tour that aren't really needed. The guys must be reading these
reviews because some of the songs have improved. Most notably "Waking in
Your Footsteps" and "Wrapped AYF". They ditched the jazz redo of
WIYF and slowed down and extended WAYF, showcasing Stu's percussion
solos. Lovely. Sting was suffering from a nagging case of laryngitis and
kept spraying his throat, drinking tea and motioning to lower the key
(the songs were slightly slower and lower). He was still fantastic.
Andy looks a little tired from the tour, but gave his best. It was a good crowd for a dark and cold Tuesday night
in November and the guys gave us our money's worth.
