82,000 people in Croke Park. What a night!! As a real
Police fan it was a joy, they seemed really up for it and you could see
that they were putting the effort in. The sound was perfect up front but
I have heard from people back the stadium and in the stands who felt
it was poor, not down to the band more down to venue. Every song was
reworked in some way most elongated with a certain Sting influence. Andy
was given quite a bit of room to enjoy himself with more than one solo
and Stewart was as manic as ever even if he did look under pressure
trying to keep up with his old self at times. Highlights for me were Driven
to Tears and a stunning version of Wrapped Around Your Finger. The
only diappointment was King of Pain which with no backing track backround
was a little flat. Having spoken to a number of different people at the
gig I think real Police fans will love seeing the three guys letting
loose at times and enjoy the different angles some of the songs are
attacked from.
Some of the people I spoke to who I'd respectfully
classify as Police tourists and Gig collectors rather than real die hard
fans were a little disappointed with the fact that the singles
collections they know were not reproduced exactly as recorded. They still
recognised that the band can make some great noise and personally I think one
of the main reasons to see a band live is to hear a different
interpretation of songs you may have heard hundreds of times before. All in all
for people like me who have been waiting 20 plus years to see these
guys it was awesome.Welcome Back!
